Cleaning
Cartridge Based Games
Over time, cartidge based game can build up a collection of dust, dirt and moisture on the connector pins, creating a weak connection, eroding the connector pins and damaging your games, as well as your system.
There are several things you can do to help slow down this process, and help your games last longer.
At PNP Games, we use a specially formulated cleaning product and multi-step cleaning and testing process that helps to remove dust, dirt, moisture and tarnish from the pins, and helps create a like new connection, so that your games plays just like it did when it was brand new.
Our solution is not for sale at this time, but you can do your own quick fix with general household items that work fairly well.
Use a small amount of Windex on a Q-Tip, and rub it across the connector pins. Immediately afterwards, repeat with the dry side of the Q-Tip in order to help further remove the dirt, and any moisture from the Windex. For pins that are very dirty, you will want to repeat this process 2-3 times.
Also, keep your games protected from dust, either by storing them in a storage case, protecting them with dustcovers, or keeping them in an area free of dust and moisture. Following these steps will help keep your games, and also systems running longer. Cleaner games lead to cleaner systems, and cleaner systems lead to cleaner games!
Make sure only to buy from sellers whose games are professionally cleaned, and guaranteed to work, such as PNP Games. We clean AND sanitize all of our used products.
Those steps help to get your games working… however some used games may have marker, stickers, or prices labeled on them which should not be on your game.
You can restore the cosmetic condition of your games to like new with some simple household cleaners, as well as a bit of your time.
You can use a Magic Eraser sponge to help get rid of most markers, and minor stickers on games. Simply dip your magic eraser in clean water, wring it out as much as possible, and then wipe the affected area to remove the blemish. Note that the Magic Eraser may not remove everything, and if used on the label of the game, it may cause damage. We recommend you try this on an inexpensive game first, and always be careful on the game label as too much rubbing will fade and remove the original label on the game.
For more severe stickers, you can purchase a product such as goo-gone and use it with an old small cloth. Simply apply the Goo-Gone to the sticker you want to remove, and then let it sit for a few minutes, and then scrub and the label should come off.
CD Based Games
CD Games can be somewhat trickier to clean at home, and there are various homemade remedies for removing scratches, none of which we can recommend as they do not work very well. Same goes for the cheap disc repair kits you can buy in stores. They work ok, but cannot fix anything more than very minor scratches.
To restore your CD/DVD from scratches properly, you need them to be professionally resurfaced. What we do for disc repair is professionally resurface the discs, and they usually come out looking like they are brand new. Our machine is the top of its class, and can even repair discs that several other resurfacers can’t.
If you need CDs or DVDs/Blu-Rays repaired please contact us for current pricing.
